Episode 1 – Rounds Synthesizer Tutorial Pt. 1
Q&A w/ Matt Cellitti
What new concepts does Rounds bring to the table?
Rounds brings a creative approach to morphing between and sequencing through individual synthesizers that can be programmed very differently. NI has other products that morph between sounds, but this synth is designed in a way to give you more flexibility because it essentially offers 16 different synthesizers in one synth.
What practical applications do you see this synth having?
I think most people will use it for sequenced melodies or arpeggios. It is what the synth excels at, but these patches are harder to program well and will take some time to master. I wouldn’t want to corner this synth into doing just that though. I’ve found the analog engine to be really inspiring even by using it like a traditional subtractive synth without any of the sequenced modulation. It sounds great and you can create a variety of textures very easily.

Episode 2 – Rounds Synthesizer Tutorial Pt. 2
Q&A w/ Matt Cellitti
It seems like the modulation options really work in tandem with the Komplete Kontrol and Rounds. What are some interesting ways you’ve found to make use of that function?
I’ve mainly used it to program evolving pads and ambient soundscapes. I like that you can create several variations of a transitioning morph pad on different Blocks and then use the keyboard to trigger the individual Blocks. The keyboard controls allow you to easily change speed, quantization, and direction of the morph.
It’s also very useful for creating bizarre sound effects that might be used in a transition or intro/outro section of a song. Morph between wildly different synth tones to get a jarring swoosh or swell.

Episode 3 – Polyplex Drum Machine Tutorial
Q&A w/ Matt Cellitti
What’s interesting to you about Polyplex?
Twisted Tools makes amazing Reaktor ensembles and they have consistently created products that fulfill a missing need for many producers. One might look at Polyplex and think, “why do I need another drum sampler when I already have several capable programs?” What’s interesting about Polyplex for me is the workflow. I get tired of constantly searching through an overabundance of drum samples for the perfect custom kit, so the clever randomization per sample is super helpful and inspiring.

Episode 4 – Kontour Synthesizer Tutorial
“Kontour is a fantastic addition to the Komplete library. It was designed by Native Instruments’ founder and creator of Reaktor, Stephan Schmitt.
The synthesis architecture of Kontour revolves around three main concepts: phase modulation, wave-shaping, and feedback. Phase Modulation is very similar to Frequency Modulation (i.e. FM synthesis) and has the effect of distorting the phase of the waveform, thereby changing its shape and harmonic content.
This synthesis style was famously integrated into the classic Casio CZ-series synthesizers and their Phase Distortion technology.

Overall, its a very useful synth capable of getting a wide range of sounds. Its easy to create your own sounds with, but also incredibly deep for expert sound designers too.” -Matt Cellitti
