Native Instruments Komplete 10 – Video Tutorial Week w/ Matt Cellitti: Ep 3. Polyplex Tutorial
Q&A w/ Matt Cellitti
What’s interesting to you about Polyplex?
Twisted Tools makes amazing Reaktor ensembles and they have consistently created products that fulfill a missing need for many producers. One might look at Polyplex and think, “why do I need another drum sampler when I already have several capable programs?” What’s interesting about Polyplex for me is the workflow. I get tired of constantly searching through an overabundance of drum samples for the perfect custom kit, so the clever randomization per sample is super helpful and inspiring.
PS – I highly recommend checking out some of Twisted Tools other products at their website here.
The UI looks beautiful, the responsive waveform animations. Is that just for show or does that serve some practical function?
The waveform animations are mostly just for show. I will say however, that this is one of the most pleasant GUI’s I’ve worked with in general. Plus the color coding system is actually helpful, even moreso when using it with the Komplete Kontrol S61.
Why create separate varying scenes within Polyplex and not by using separate tracks in your DAW?
The scenes within Polyplex make it easier for me to organize I guess. I personally like having one instance of a plugin to worry about, rather than having to make duplicates and cluttering up my session with tracks. I think the power of the scenes is to make a few subtle changes to a single kit like I show in the video. At least that is the workflow that has been inspiring me.
For live use, the scenes make a ton of sense too. I would not want to create a ton of drum variations among multiple programs in a live set.
Stay tuned all week for Komplete Week, a different tutorial video each day dedicated to Native Instruments Komplete 10.
